Walden was retained to evaluate existing tanks and provide recommendations for their removal, abandonment, and replacement to suit our client’s needs at a Major Oil Storage Facility (MOSF).
A private power company needed to do work inside and on top of the retired mounded tanks at their facility. Work hadn’t been completed due to concerns related to the structural integrity of the mounded tanks.
Walden performed external and internal visual inspections of the mounded tanks. Ultrasonic testing was done on tanks roofs, walls, and floor, and a confined space entry plan was prepared to allow safe access to the interior of the tanks.
Based on the observations and the ultrasonic readings, Walden determined that the mounded tanks were safe to be entered and the roof could support occupancy.
A structural engineering evaluation determined that work could be performed in a safe manner, within and on top of the tanks.
