Every year on Walden’s anniversary date (May 19th), the Walden staff performs community service to give back to the great communities that have helped Walden grow as a company. This year, Walden’s 18th Anniversary, the date was pushed back to July 26, when the staff traveled to Breezy Point, to assist residents whose homes were devastated by hurricane Sandy. The staff had a great day, splitting into groups in the morning and assisting six elder families by cleaning, and performing various tasks assigned to them by their excited and thankful hosts. After a re-energizing lunch, the staff was given a tour of the devastation that hurricane Sandy caused in Breezy Point, and although terrible, we were delighted to see the signs of re-building and hope in the area. The staff traveled to two different 9/11 memorials on the beach, both with fantastic views of lower Manhattan and the newly built Freedom Tower a sight that cannot be missed on the horizon. We cleaned up these sites in the afternoon before finishing off a great day with some ice cold beverages on the beach. This day of service to our community was certainly a day to remember!
